We Welcome Dr. Abe Cáceres to Grace on June 29!

On Sunday, June 29 we will welcome Dr. Abraham Cáceres as our music enlivener in worship. Dr. Abe will also teach a special Sunday School class featuring some of the music we will sing in worship. All are welcome to attend this workshop!

Born and raised in the capital of Puerto Rico - New York City, he listened and danced to the music of Tito Puente and Ray Barretto when they were unknown musicians playing in church basements. There he grew up learning to improvise in the Afro-Latin traditions, which he brings into his composing. Dr. Abe is a percussionist, organist, pianist, composer, and holds a PhD in Ethnomusicology from Indiana. He recently retired to Cary, NC to be close to family, after a career of connecting people in all corners of the world through music. In Cary he has served as an interim music leader at one of our fellow Alliance of Baptist congregations, Greenwood Forest Baptist Church. Like many of us, he was excited to learn about this loving branch of the Baptist tree.

Perhaps the best advertisement that can be shared about Dr. Abe is this testimonial, from a 5th Grader:

Fun, funny and awesome…. We didn’t just listen to somebody talk. We got to do things and we learned a truck load.”
