Communities in Schools
Communities In Schools (CIS) of Richmond is a nonprofit that partners with 42 schools across Richmond Public Schools and Henrico County Public Schools. Its goal is to surround students with a community of support so they can stay in school and succeed in life. Site Coordinators based in each school identify what students and families need. They then connect them to resources such as mentoring, basic needs support, enrichment programs, and volunteers. CIS of Richmond also brings in community partners, including businesses, faith organizations, and local nonprofits, to widen the support available in its schools. It is part of the national Communities In Schools network.

Grace Baptist Church will be partnering with the CIS coordinator at Lois-Harrison Jones Elementary, which is 1.5 miles from our building. The community ministry commission is working to schedule ways for individuals and groups to get involved this school year! A clearly expressed need is for lunch buddies and reading buddies that can show up at the school and spend time with students 2-4 times a month.
